Bingle Camp 6/3

06-03-2011

Ole Sondeno -

Good evening everyone! Today was another busy day in much higher temperatures (didn’t see a thermometer though, so can’t provide details though, sorry!). After a delicious hot breakfast of pancakes, sausage, oatmeal, coffee, orange juice, milk, and cereal, Quincy led a Bible study centered around developing ones daily life with several scripture verses, including Exodus 20:1-17, Proverbs 14:29, and Mark 4:1-20.

After our study, we started the manual labor. Today, we did a lot of brush, tree, and grass trimming around the main lodge and the cabin we are staying in. Bret was busy running the heavy-duty weed eater and the chain saw as Eric and Casey split the wood using a hydraulic wood splitter. Anna and Macy cleaned our cabin very thoroughly as Emily and Sarah washed all the windows. Kennedy helped everybody do a bit of everything. Macy did lots of weed eating and mowing. Quincy and I tried to do a bit of earthwork down at the lake front. Tammy, Anna, and Becky (the facility manager for Bingle Camp) hand-trimmed all of the larger brush from around the cabin.

Dinner was a tasty chicken noodle casserole, green beans, corn, green salad, and chocolate chip cookies. After dinner we played a Biblical-based game of Scrabble and then planned on a camp fire for roasting marshmallows for s’mores, but a rain shower put us out of commission, so we roasted marshmallows over the gas cooking stove in the kitchen instead! Not quite as fun, but just as tasty. Following our s’mores adventure, Ray Eddy (the camp director) came back after buying all kinds of supplies in town. We helped him unload the pickup and then headed back to the cabin for a fun-filled evening of Crazy Uno. A special thanks to Daniel and Balea Olson for teaching us the game!

Well, all for now, thanks for the prayers and keeping up with us on the blog!

Whoo first blog of the mission trip… so far on this trip i have tripped, chopped down at least 300000000 trees, gotten bitten by so many bugs i could not even count and laughed a ton :) limping around the bingle camp has really been interesting and a lot of fun. Alaska is amazing and so beautiful, it reminds me a lot of Yellowstone actually. Today i learned that i LOVE chopping down trees there are these neat tree choppers that are a ton of fun. its one of the jobs i can actually do. The food is amazing the people are all nice and i can not wait for the next day when i go to sleep. Mom i miss you and bubs a lot, how are lark and the cows? is Bells better? I hope its actually warm down there because sadly we brought the rain up here. Today it was cloudy, but it cleared out until we wanted to build a fire and it started raining :( The laKE is so beautiful and paddle boating is great physical therapy for my knee. Anyways i think im going to go to sleep because we are all so sleepy goodnight all!

  1. David and I are happy that Anna has found a job she likes, but don’t plan on cutting trees in Wyoming! We need every tree we can get!
It is so nice to see pictures of everyone.
Cows and calves are at the two dot and fine. Steers are eating and happy the weather is more dry. Bella is back to her old self. Marley, Lilly, lark and Simona are all doing well. We are warmer, but I would like the wind to calm down.
Grandma Darlene and GrandpaMick are in Colorado with Grandma Helen and are on there way next to see Grandma Mary. Sebastian stayed with us last night. They built a huge tent to sleep in with every pillow and blanket in the house. They were in bed with me within 30 minutes!
Continue to keep us all posted. Love to all, Mary and David

  2. Hi Bingle Camp crew!

Macy, we had CODY wind for 2 days!!! 15-35mph w/ gusts of 50mph. Since you are missing the wind I thought I’d let you know. :D )

Today is beautiful..NO WIND YET! Myla and I had a great walk this morning. Yesterday I had my winter coat – hat – gloves on and still froze. Just so you know, O and Q, Myla LOVES to go clear over to our place and up and around the trees, so when you get back and she tugs to go that way, you will know why.

I went into Dead Indian with Miss Pentilla yesterday, but it doesn’t have anything
on the beauty of totally snow covered Jim Mountain!!!

Casey, you’ll be wanting your own 4 wheeler now…huh!?? What about your own log splitter??

Anna, don’t bring the BUGS back with you!! We don’t have any, yet!! :D )

Emily, I am glad to see the LIFE JACKET on today!! I was a a bit worried about that …… but it’s a “old woman’s” worry, I suppose.

I loved the train-chain of hair braiders in the other set of pictures!! Eric, you were suppose to be braiding Anna’s hair, not just hugging her! :D )

    I love the blog!!!

    You guys are all awesome!!!

    Love, Ole’s Mom

  3. You guys are so darn industrious! Looks like the weed pulling continues… Kenn, you’ll be glad to know that I’m doing the opposite – I planted our mini garden today! So in a couple of months we’ll have carrots, onions, spaghetti squash, crookneck squash and cucumbers! I planted some cilantro, too, since I had some extra space. That means that the weed-pulling skills you’re working to sharpen now you’ll be able to put to use at home the rest of the summer!

It’s a gorgeous day here today, it’s supposed to be even nicer tomorrow! I have to remember to water the garden now every day, since it’s not supposed to rain again for a few days.

Jack called yesterday from Sheridan, they got there fine and are expecting Grandma and Grandpa to arrive today. Their concert is today at 4, then G&G will take Jack to Torrington. He’ll be back in Cody next Friday! So when you get back here on Saturday night, he’ll be here too.

By the way, you guys aren’t missing much at the carnival – Annette and Hannah and I went over after the show last night. Quite a few creepizoids, those carnies are pretty sketchy! Hannah and I rode the ferris wheel, that was about it. Annette socialized with everyone – there aren’t very many people in town that she doesn’t know!

I miss you so much, Kendedeeee…. I love seeing the pictures! I am hoping, from a mom’s point of view, that you’ll have an opportunity to wash that Quake hoodie soon… you’re wearing it in almost every picture!

Love and miss you, K… you guys have a great day, can’t wait to see more pictures tomorrow!!

    Mom (Wendy)

  4. Hi Emily I have some bad news copper got bit by a rattle snake but he’s ok. Bently used his jail free card on Thursday when the guys cleaned his pen. They tied him up and he got lose and dad had to get him in but he kept getting away. After we got him in a corner and we put him in with the cows he liked it. The next morning on Friday, dad and the guys put him in. All- state music was cool i liked it.

    your sister,
    Macey

  5. Hi Kids, You are all doing good deeds for the camp. When the first guests arrive they will be amazed, it probably has never looked so good to start the season. The heat is up down here in the lower 48. High 70′s yesterday, supposed to be 86 today, 91 tomorrow. The creeks and rivers are going to rock and roll. Q & O, Mazzy is doing just fine, kind of a whinner, but she and I are now officially “buds”. She is so desperate for companionship that even I look good.

I wonder what you will do this week? It looked like you got it all done last week! Good pictures and comments you all, thanks, Roy
