Bingle Camp June 9th

Sara Reed-

Today I had to sleep in a little because last night after the crew blogged we went on the the camps speed boat and it was SUPER FAST, even faster then grandpa’s boat! Anyways, enough about last night, today was soo much fun, although the temperatures kept changing on me. We spent most of the day at Chena Hot Spring Resort, first we went swimming but I was kind of mad because the only pool us kids were allowed to go in was just an inside pool but the adult pool was amazing. It had a bunch of boulders around it that steaming mineral water came out of. Plus it was outside and then I maybe wouldn’t of been too hot because it was lightly raining outside. After we went swimming we were about to go back to fairbanks to eat but then Bret my dad said that he was pay for us to go on a tour of the Ice hotel. It was really cool and the whole thing was made of ice. They even had a ice bar, and for 500 dollars you can stay the night in one of the two rooms. Brrrrrrrr, I had to leave earlier because my feet were freezing off! What a sight to see though. Everyones stomachs were talking to everyone else’s so we decided to eat at Silver Gulch brewery and I had the best Root Beer EVER! The food was great too. After our great meal we went to the North Pole and Visited Santa… He called me a Princess <3 :) All and all today was probably the best day, but who knows theres still a tomorrow!

Bret Reed-

Chena Hot Springs is quite an amazing place because they generate all their own power using a combination of geothermal, wind and solar with backup diesel generation for electricity. They also use the geothermal energy from the hot springs to heat their green houses and they also use the hot springs to cool their ice museum / hotel during the warm months. Lots of trees in Alaska, much like driving thru Yellowstone. It rained rained lightly from early morning till about 2pm. It is currently sunny outside and mostly clear. We are hoping for better weather tomorrow. Tammy had a nice wrap-up bible study to recap all our lessons. Tammy also has a nice way of providing a simple subject for study that can generate a lot of thought and introspection.

  1. Wow – Kenn, I think you’ll agree that I would not last long in an ice hotel… How beautiful, though!! Looks like you guys are having a blast and really enjoying these last couple of days!
Enjoy the heck out of today, and PLEASE be safe tomorrow! I have thoroughly enjoyed this blog, the pictures and the commentary. Thanks to Ole and Quincy for keeping us all in the loop this last week and a half – I don’t know how I would have lasted!!
Kenn, Jack comes home today (YAY)! Grandma and Grandpa will be here sometime this afternoon. I’ll be able to spend some time with him tomorrow (packing for camp), and I’m sure Grandma, Grandpa or Dad will be at the church to pick you up when you guys drive in. I wish I could be the one to pick you up!! Tell you what, if you come in after 9:45 p.m. I’ll be there, if it’s before it will probably be them.
Have a great time today, and the next time we chat it will be FACE TO FACE! Whew!

    Love, Mom (Wendy)

  2. David and I think Sara wore chacos to the ice hotel, since she wears those sandals everywhere. Great choice for the hot springs, not so great for a building of ice. I am sorry the group couldn’t use the outdoor pool. They didn’t know what super kids they had on the premises! The hotel is very beautiful, and energy efficient! Did Dad ask to see the furnace/back room? Princess Sara, we miss you and Dad and Anna so much! Can’t wait to hear these stories in person.
We might have blue sky today? Another half inch of rain yesterday.

  3. HI Emily, yesterday Nick , Kinise ,David and I set up a lemonade stand with homemade cookies. Most people did not buy the lemonade because it was cold outside. They mostly bought cookies. We raised over $220 and we are giving the money to a fire chief that has lost his home in the tornado that hit Joplin.

I love you vary much Emily,
    love your sister,
    Macey Reed
